When was the last time
you actually enjoyed an outing w/ your kids? I mean really
was mentally and physically involved in that
moment with them. With so many
distractions, like our cell phones, I’ve noticed
in myself and others around me, that
we’re more glued to the phone then we are to our
surroundings.
This
past Sunday, after church, I took the kids to the children’s museum. Every
3rd Sunday of the month, it’s free
admission, so we try to go every month if we can. This time
I decided
to play w/ the kids and not be on my phone as much. Luckily, my phone
barely had any battery juice, but I was still able
to take a few pictures. It was a fun experience
for me to actually pay attention to my kids as they
explored around the museum.
Even though we’ve been
there several times before, I usually just scroll through my phone
and let the kids wonder. (no worries, I still was aware of their whereabouts ). This time around
was amazing and my youngest really enjoyed me participating in the festivities.
My youngest, Isaiah, is very outgoing
and full of energy, so you know I was tired when we got home.
Just sitting there
listening to them, running around and learning with them was so fun.
Later when we got home, we ate almost a whole bag of chips with salsa and we watched Air Buddies on Netflix. I actually did end up falling up asleep on the couch,
but I still enjoyed being in their presence .
I
know times may be rough and not every day is NOT going to be all laughs and fun,
but making the most out of each time you have with your kids is life changing.
I guess what I can say is, it opened my eyes a little wider. Life is short and
with what’s going on with the world today, I definitely don’t want to take any
moment for granted. I must say it’s definitely a gift from God to be a mother to my
boys.
So to
my mothers’ out there, if you have time with you kids, be present. Put on your child-like imagination and
explore and wonder with your young ones. You’d be surprised what your kids
already know and what you may not know. Just as parents teach their children,
your child can also teach you.
